Accent Vlog

Hello again & Happy Friday!

So, I’ve never done a vlog (or video blog for those who don’t know) nor did I think I ever would because I think my recorded voice sounds like a fast talking, high pitched munchkin. Ha!

Anyway, after watching a few of these videos it looked like too much fun to pass up so I figured I’d give it whirl!

Hopefully you’ll enjoy this & maybe even make one of your own. I think it’s kinda neat to hear all the different accents/regional dialects – plus now when I read people’s blogs I hear their real voice in my head instead of the one I’ve invented for them. Although if some of you are cool with sounding like Helen Mirren or Jimmy Fallon then never mind. ;)

So for this vlog, you basically just tape yourself saying a list of words and answering various questions as a way to showcase your accent. Simple! I’ll post the instructions below in case anyone decides to give it a go. Otherwise, that’s it!

Enjoy!

***Disclamer!: I got a little awkward when describing where I come from and how my accent might have developed. I meant to say I am from Illinois, people have said I sound like I have a Chicago accent, I went to school in Central/Southern Illinois, and that I now live in Minnesota. And yes, I realize that Minnesotans don’t walk around saying “lets go buy a coat!” but that’s what Mr.C says all the time as a stereotype to make fun of the MN accent so that’s why it’s in there. And it makes me giggle. Plus, the Minnesota/Canadian long “o” sound has been popping out of my mouth lately which is both shocking and rad. I guess soon I’ll be sounding like How I Met Your Mother’s Robin Scherbatsky if she ever moved to the midwest!

Instructions:

Say the following words aloud:

Aunt, route, wash, oil, theatre, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, New Orleans, pecan, both, again, probably, spitting image, Alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, syrup, pajamas, caught

And answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that curls into a ball when you touch it?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you use to change the TV channel?

Have a great weekend! xo, Meg
