weekend review: thanksgiving edition

After Mr.C got off work Wednesday night, we made the late night drive back to our hometown in Illinois, arriving at around 2:30am.

On Thursday, we spent most of the day apart hanging out with our respective families before meeting back up at 6pm for a scrumptious Thanksgiving dinner with Mr.C’s family complete with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes & gravy, rolls, chicken and noodles, and pie – both berry and pumpkin.

Friday was spent with my family. We ate a casual lunch, visited all the grandparents where I lusted over my grandma’s MCM furniture), had a wonderful albeit short visit with our friends B & S (B: Mr.C’s best man + S: our fabulous cake maker) from Indiana, and rounded out the night with some euchre.

On Saturday we met up with a large group of our friends from high school for breakfast at the local Kountry Kettle. Afterward, Mr.C went to surprise the girls he used to coach at their morning basketball practice while I tagged along with E and her out-of-town guests for a little Small Business Saturday shopping around historic, downtown Mt.Carroll. It was fun to visit the local shops and art studios checking out the antiques, homemade gifts, stained/blown glass, and Mad Hatter Tea Room.

Saturday afternoon we drove a few hours to meet up with my dad’s side of the family for a nice dinner at Hank’s Farm Restaurant.

Saturday night, after dinner, we zoomed home to cheer on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team and watch as they finished out the season undefeated!

On Sunday, after a great breakfast, we made the rounds + said goodbye to everyone before making the drive to Minnesota. On the way back we listened to the Chicago Bears clobber the Minnesota Vikings. We may live in the great North Star State now but we still bleed navy blue and orange for sure. (Go Bears!)

Our holiday was, as expected, quite the whirlwind trip – one of those tiring, slightly emotionally draining but great weekends.

It was nice to see everyone, friends + family alike, relax a bit, eat lots and lots, and reminisce about the good, old times.

….a few steps to the left of this swing is where Mr.C & I had our first kiss 9 years ago.

Missing everybody already – but no worries, we’ll be back in less than a month for Christmas!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

  1. I cant believe Notre Dame did so good this year. My Dad is an alumni and ND football is BIG in his house. Whenever they lost he would pout all day (and they usually lose a LOT!). I sort of wish I was home to see him so happy with the wins :)

    • Yeah, a few of my in-laws are ND alum too so it’s been all about the Irish this season! So cool about your dad – I bet he’s lovin’ this!
